Hello, all! We are very excited to be able to communicate with you at this site, and hope you will check it often for Co-op news! CHESS Brockport is very pleased to welcome some new members this fall. Tracey F., Anna R., and Sally B. and your families, welcome aboard! We are happy to welcome Belinda W., Tammy B., and Krista M. and their families back, too!
Our fall schedule is just about set now–thanks to all the teachers and their great class ideas! We’ll be posting class descriptions soon, to let you know what’s coming up. In other news, we will now have two options for standardized testing in the spring: those who prefer the SAT can test at CHESS Brockport, and those who prefer the Iowa test will be able to test with Carolyn’s group in Albion! More on that to come . . .
Make sure you mark your calendars for the Back-to-School Picnic on Sept. 12–a time of food, fun, fellowship with friends old and new, and Co-op news. See you there!
Welcome to the NEW and Improved Chess Website!
John Baker has been diligently working to make this a functional and happy site. Thanks John!
The website wilI become more integral to the happenings at CHESS in the coming year. Enjoy looking around and becoming familiar with the new CHESS Brockport site. There has been many additional pages added that will help you find out what is happening, when and where!
As you can tell, John has posted pictures of the yearbook which is being printed as we speak. Copies will be available at the “back to school picnic” in September. A big Hoorah goes to Brenda Baker, she has done a beautiful job on the yearbook.
Sue Rogers, Melanie Travis and myself have been working behind the scenes this summer in order to seamlessly begin 2008-2009 with fun events, classes and programs. We are very excited about the Science Fair Program coming in the fall. Wendy A, Belinda W, Sue R, Kim B, Anna R, and I are making preparations in order for that program to run smoothly.
Also, remember to look under events for information about the Fort Niagara “Night at the Fort” event happening in September.
Well, enjoy the cooler weather of August, as it is coming closer to the end of another lovely summer in upstate NY… Looking forward to another great year at CHESS!
In Christ,
Leea

A Day and Night in the Fort
The most complete of our programs, providing an educational and enjoyable experience based on the daily life of soldiers in the garrison circa 200 years ago. The hands-on activities provide insights into North America’s past.
Participants will rotate between several activities. These include Infantry Drill with wooden muskets, Artillery & Fortification Training, Cooking & Baking, and Fatigue Duties. Through these hands-on activities, our instructors will provide interesting details about the period, Old Fort Niagara, and the common soldier.
After supper, the evening program will feature a discussion of the role of men and women, their clothing (modeled for you) and other facets of daily life. We will finish the evening with folklore on our “Weird Tales Walk.”
In the morning, after breakfast, a guided tour of the site will conclude your program.
This program is based on the life and times of Old Fort Niagara’s British garrison in the American Revolution.
